Major Shakeup in College Football Recruiting: Five-Star Twin Defensive Ends Darryll and Mandrell Desir Flip from Florida State to Missouri Tigers, Snubbing Alabama, Nebraska, and Other Top Programs
In a seismic shift on the college football recruiting trail, five-star twin defensive ends Darryll and Mandrell Desir have officially flipped their commitments from Florida State to the University of Missouri. The announcement, made via a joint social media post Tuesday afternoon, has sent shockwaves through the recruiting world and positioned the Missouri Tigers as a rising force heading into the 2027 season.
The Desir twins, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, are considered two of the most dominant edge rushers in the 2026 class. At 6’5″, 245 pounds apiece, the duo has terrorized high school offenses with speed, power, and elite instincts. Recruiting services have ranked both brothers within the top 10 nationally at their position, with Darryll listed as the No. 2 overall prospect and Mandrell at No. 4.
The twins had been verbally committed to Florida State since the summer of 2024, and they were heavily pursued by blue-blood programs including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Nebraska, and Texas. Many assumed it was a lock that the twins would stay in the Sunshine State or land at a perennial playoff contender.
But the Desirs shocked the recruiting world by choosing Missouri, citing a strong relationship with newly appointed head coach Kellen Winslow and the opportunity to build something new.
“We’ve been watching Coach Winslow since he got the job,” Darryll said in an exclusive interview. “He’s building a culture that’s different—something real. We want to be the foundation, not just another name on a long list.”
Mandrell added, “Missouri believed in us from day one. They didn’t just sell us on hype—they showed us a vision, and we’re all in.”
The commitment marks a major recruiting win for Winslow, who just weeks into his tenure has already landed the highest-rated defensive duo in Missouri history. It signals a shift in recruiting power dynamics, as Missouri is now successfully pulling elite talent away from powerhouse programs.
Recruiting analysts are calling the Desir flip one of the most impactful moves of the cycle. “This is a defining moment for Missouri,” said 247Sports analyst Greg Biggins. “Kellen Winslow has turned this program into a legitimate threat in recruiting—something we haven’t seen in years. Landing the Desir twins gives Missouri a pass rush that could dominate the SEC for years to come.”
The impact is already being felt beyond Missouri’s borders. Florida State’s recruiting class now drops out of the top five nationally, while Missouri jumps into the top 10. Alabama, which had made a late push, is also left regrouping.
For the Tigers, the addition of the Desirs is more than a recruiting win—it’s a statement of intent. With these two explosive defenders anchoring the line, Missouri suddenly looks like a program capable of contending in the SEC much sooner than expected.
As the 2027 season approaches, all eyes will be on Columbia. With Kellen Winslow at the helm and the Desir twins leading the charge on defense, the Tigers are no longer underdogs—they’re a team to watch.
