Michigan State football hosts its 2025 Pro Day for NFL scouts

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – The Michigan State football program welcomed NFL scouts and personnel to the Duffy Daugherty Football Building on Wednesday as the Spartans hosted their annual Pro Day.

Fourteen players from the 2024 team participated in Pro Day: offensive lineman Brandon Baldwin, defensive end Khris Bogle, running back Nathan Carter, defensive back Lejond Cavazos, defensive tackle D’Quan Douse, wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr., defensive back Angelo Grose, defensive tackle Maverick Hansen, placekicker Jonathan Kim, running back Kay’ron Lynch-Adams, center Tanner Miller, offensive lineman Luke Newman, linebacker Jordan Turner and cornerback Ed Woods.

“Big time day today – 14 of our guys putting the final touches on their career,” said MSU head coach Jonathan Smith. “Well represented, it’s an exciting day, and I was pretty pleased with what they were able to do today.

“Some guys have been here longer than others, but all 14 of these guys contributed, especially last year. You feel really proud for what they have done for the Spartans.”

Newman, who had a chance to feature his versatility by playing three different interior positions at the East-West Shrine Bowl in Arlington, Texas, displayed his overall athleticism on Pro Day. He recorded a vertical jump of 35 inches, which would have placed him second among all offensive linemen at the NFL Combine. Newman also put up 29 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, which would have been fourth in Indianapolis, and he had a broad jump of 9′2″.

“I feel like Michigan State did a very good job preparing me for that level,” said Newman, who transferred to MSU for the 2024 season and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as a left guard after garnering All-America accolades twice at left tackle during his four-year career at Holy Cross (2020-23). “I’ve gotten able to learn a lot (throughout this draft process), I’ve gotten to showcase who I am as a person, and not just a player. It’s really been challenging but very rewarding.”

Carter also had an impressive day. His 40-inch vertical leap would have been second highest among the running backs at the combine, his bench press of 23 reps would have tied for first, and his broad jump of 10′8″ would have tied for fifth.

“It was amazing to just be able to come out here and see my teammates, see family and friends cheering,” said Carter, who rushed for 2,280 yards during his 40-game collegiate career, including 1,297 yards and nine touchdowns in his two seasons (2023-24) at Michigan State. “I think everyone that performed today did an amazing job. We put the work in for three months for this one day. We knew the opportunity was going to be ahead of us, and I believe we all did our jobs to show out. It’s a blessing to see Spartan Nation be around us as we were doing that.”

Hansen, who was named a captain in his sixth and final season with the Spartans in 2024, led the way on the bench press with 31 reps, which would have been first among the defensive tackles at the NFL Combine and tied for fourth overall. Turner and Miller each put up 25 reps apiece.

“Appreciation for the group, being in year one and buying in, and the trust that’s involved in that, the work that got put it,” said Smith when talking about his first group of seniors at Michigan State. “I enjoyed this team – would we have loved to win more games, no question, but I did enjoy working with this particular group, and I think they have laid a foundation for how we want to approach things, and it’s going to propel us moving forward.”
