The Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22 in overtime to win the 2024 Super Bowl.
Philadelphia Eagles DT Fletcher Cox threw some shade at 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel shortly after the game.
Cox posted on his Instagram account, “@19problemz keep the EAGLES OUT CHO MOUTH BOE.”
In a subsequent Instagram story, Cox said, “I still got some you ain’t got.” Yes! This one has been in my possession, son! EAD
Samuel gained notoriety during Super Bowl week by subtly criticizing the Eagles.
“I view rivalries as close contests. We will not be discussing that topic any longer. That’s resolved,” Samuel declared on February 5th, Opening Night.
The 49ers’ last victory over the Eagles came in Week 13 in December, winning 42-19. The Eagles had defeated the 49ers 31–7 in the NFC Championship game of the previous season.
Following that, Samuel labeled James Bradberry, an Eagles wide receiver, “trash” on the LeSean McCoy podcast “I Am Athlete.” Later, he said he didn’t regret his remarks to “Up & Adams.”
“We were just chatting about balls. I said what I said, and they continued it or something. In the end, I don’t regret saying it, even though I did say it.
In the 2023 Super Bowl, Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated the Eagles as well. But as Cox pointed out, he already owns a Super Bowl ring from Philadelphia’s 41-33 shootout victory against the New England Patriots in 2018.
Have fun
Zack Gelb of CBS Sports disclosed on X on Sunday night that he spoke with Cox regarding Samuel before the Super Bowl.
“On radio row, I questioned Fletcher Cox about Deebo Samuel. He admitted to me after the interview that he bit his tongue during it and mentioned that Deebo hadn’t yet won anything. We are here now; it was just a matter of time.
Deebo Silent During the Super Bowl Loss
The Niners gave Usher a 10-3 lead at halftime after a first half replete with turnovers, but in the second half, both teams’ offenses picked up steam.
Despite having a game-high 11 targets, Samuel’s stat line was quiet in the end: 3 catches for 33 receiving yards. Apart from his impressive 8-grab, 89-yard performance in the NFC Championship game against the Lions, the Packers also contained him in the Divisional Round, allowing him to catch just 2 targets for 24 yards.
Midway through the third quarter, the 28-year-old star left the Super Bowl due to a hamstring injury, but he eventually came back.
