Through the transfer portal, the Auburn Tigers have been trying to add secondary players.
The secondary on Auburn’s roster last year was among the strongest position groups because of the experienced leadership. On the other hand, while having a large number of older players in a position group may be advantageous in the short run, you will need to use the portal extensively to make up for the veteran players’ departure for the NFL Draft. Coach Hugh Freeze is currently in that job.
Fortunately, assistance is on the way as Jerrin Thompson, a former safety for Texas, recently revealed that he will be moving to the Plains from the Lone Star State. Thompson was a four-star recruit in the 2020 class, coming in at 183rd overall in the 247Sports composite rankings. Thompson played 568 snaps for the Longhorns in the previous season and had a 73.1 PFF grade.
After Thompson reached the gateway, Emma Hutchinson of The Daily Texan said, “Thompson recorded 38 tackles, broke seven passes, and caught three interceptions this season, one of which went for a touchdown. The Texas secondary will be lost a key player with his absence. Thompson was one of the players, according to head coach Steve Sarkisian, who got into his strategy from the beginning and saw it through to completion.
Although Auburn’s secondary is full of youthful players, several of the experienced leaders are expected to declare for the NFL Draft. It’s obvious that Texas coach Steve Sarkisian saw Thompson as a leader and a player that benefits the Tigers from the moment he steps onto campus. Thompson is just another quality transfer portal addition that has improved Auburn’s roster.
