January 13 – The host Miami Heat defeated the Orlando Magic 99-96 on Friday night thanks to a game-winning shot from Bam Adebayo at the free-throw line with 18.8 seconds remaining.
With 11.9 seconds remaining, magic star Paolo Banchero missed a short banker. After grabbing the rebound, he missed a layup that would have sealed the victory for Orlando.
Banchero had an opportunity to send the game into overtime after Miami’s Haywood Highsmith made two free throws, but he missed a 3-pointer from the top of the key as the ball rebounded off the back of the rim, ending the game.
With 25 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, Banchero led all scorers. In addition, he had six assists and eight rebounds. Moritz Wagner of Orlando scored 19 points in the paint. Duncan Robinson of Miami led the squad in scoring with 23 points. Adebayo contributed 11 rebounds and 21 points.
