On this road trip, the Boston Bruins have played extra hockey four times. However, unlike the previous three games, they won the two points when Charlie McAvoy scored his second goal of the game to seal the victory.
Although the Bruins didn’t start the four-game road trip with a bang, head coach Jim Montgomery was happy with his team’s overall performance, as they managed to score five of the available eight points.
“It was excellent. Montgomery said, “I felt we didn’t start on time in the first period, really loose,” during NESN’s postgame broadcast. “Then I believed that we reached Bruins’ hockey in the second and third periods. Gaining one victory in the 3-on-3 overtime is pleasing. This appears to be the overtime road trip.
McAvoy was thrilled to finish the road trip with the victory rather than another overtime loss, even though the Bruins only managed five points on the trip.
It gets five out of eight marks for soundness. On NESN’s postgame coverage, McAvoy stated, “I mean, points in every game… that sounds good.” However, the manner in which we were dropping these games was somewhat depressing. After three consecutive overtimes and another one tonight, everything worked out, so I’m happy to wrap up the trip with a victory now.
Brad Marchand, the captain of the Bruins, knew the club needed the victory.
Marchand said to NESN’s Adam Pellerin following the game, “We just kind of had that desperation tonight.” “Even though they scored a few times to tie the score, I thought we played a fantastic game.” We continued.
It’s a great way to wrap out a road journey. We should feel pleased with five out of eight. We are able to build on it.
The sixth goal of McAvoy’s career in overtime set a new franchise record for a defender, surpassing the five goals scored by Bruins great Ray Bourque.
The game-winning goal by McAvoy wasn’t the only Bruins victory during the Blues game. In the match, Marchand scored two goals; the first marked his career’s 900th point.
Feels nice, Marchand remarked. “I doubt that I would have progressed this far when I first started, when I was younger. I’m only attempting to express my gratitude for the chance and the team’s progress. Every day is a lot of fun with it.
