On January 15, the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins played a Monday matinee. The Devils’ Brendan Smith and the opposition’s Charlie McAvoy clashed early in the first period close to New Jersey’s blue line.
After just 2:43 of play, Smith went through the tunnel to the locker room. The 34-year-old did not play with his teammates throughout the second period and missed the remaining portion of the first.
The experienced defenseman has been a member of the team’s best defensive duo with Simon Nemec ever since Jonas Siegenthaler suffered a foot injury.
