Boston – On Saturday night at TD Garden, the Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-3 thanks to goals from Trent Frederic and five other players. Since the Christmas break, Boston has won five of their last six games.
Morgan Geekie, who scored Boston’s fifth goal at 1:35 of the third to give the Bruins a two-goal lead, remarked, “We’re building here.” We seem to be moving in the correct way, in my opinion. Additionally, our level of competition is only rising, and I believe we are beginning to act accordingly as well.
“We’re going to take it with us and simply strive to improve every day out there.”
Brayden Point took Tampa a 1-0 lead only 21 seconds into the game, but Boston, which is leaving on a four-game, seven-day road trip, quickly recovered to take a one-goal deficit. After 20 minutes, the Bruins took the lead with to goals from Charlie McAvoy and Frederic in a swift response.
After Tampa twice closed the gap to one goal, the Black & Gold took the lead with to goals from Charlie Coyle, Jake DeBrusk (an empty-net goal), and Geekie in the third period.

Our third period was excellent, according to coach Jim Montgomery. “I thought we were smart; we held onto pucks in the offensive zone, forcing them to defend and depleting their energy to go the other way. We also had numbers everywhere and didn’t give up an odd-man rush.”
They had a few power plays thanks to penalties, which makes them dangerous, but our penalty kill was outstanding, in my opinion. We did a great job at giving up.
