Today’s commitment from five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood to LSU continues the Tigers’ successful recruiting momentum. Underwood is the second commitment for LSU’s ’25 class in three days, and he is ranked as the top overall talent in the 2025 247Sports Composite rankings. In a ceremony held at his high school, Underwood graciously thanked his coaches and family before making his commitment.
Underwood’s Hiring Procedure
Underwood is from Belleville, Michigan, so LSU got beyond Michigan’s close vicinity to win his commitment. Underwood made a belated trip to Alabama as well. Underwood has made several unofficial trips to Baton Rouge with his family, and the Tigers have been seen to be the front-runner in his recruitment for months. Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback, committed to Michigan in November, which helped to officially establish that LSU was Underwood’s rival.
At 6’3″ and 210 pounds, Underwood is the perfect size. On film, his powerful arm and athleticism to extend plays are constantly evident. He has attended Belleville High School since his first year, and in his sophomore year, he passed for more than 2700 yards. Underwood’s sophomore year saw Belleville make a return trip to the state title game, with Underwood throwing for 40 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
The Way to the Field
Underwood might be entering a crowded quarterback room at LSU as things stand with the roster. Garrett Nussmeier, who is predicted to start in 2024, may choose to return for his final year. Redshirt sophomore Rickie Collins, a native of Baton Rouge, and ’24 recruit Colin Hurley, if he redshirts, will both be freshmen. It is improbable that all three of the team’s quarterbacks will still be there in 25 in this day and age of collegiate football.
After just one season as the starter, Nussmeier could play well enough to depart for the NFL. If that’s the case, defeating Collins and Hurley might give Underwood a faster route to the field. Determining roster depth isn’t always a deciding factor for prominent recruits. Underwood has said that while selecting a school, one of his top considerations was development. He’s already discussed his attraction to LSU as well.
“Amazing coaching staff, fantastic coaching staff, and fantastic atmosphere.” The show is steeped with history. Louisiana State University saw the in and out of many outstanding athletes. The cuisine is incredible. There are a lot of genuine people in the world. Many individuals are from Michigan. Many things resonate with us,” Underwood remarked.
LSU’s eighth pledge for the 2025 class is Hot Start Underwood. The top wide receiver, running back, and quarterback in the 247Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class have now committed to LSU. As of right now, the Tigers are the only team in their class with three five stars. Position coaches will aid LSU’s efforts to take advantage of a good defensive class of Louisiana players, especially with the hiring of Blake Baker as new defensive coordinator.
