– The Los Angeles Rams have guaranteed a position in the NFC tournament, thus they will enter this last week of the 2023 NFL season with a nice surprise playoff berth.
And they’ll have a new kicker as they start the new year.
And what an incredible turn of events it would be if that new kicker, who just so happens to be an old friend of Brett Maher’s, ends up representing the Rams in the NFL playoffs, starting against the Dallas Cowboys in the opening round?
On Monday, the Rams benched Lucas Havrisik and signed Maher, a player who Cowboys supporters are all too familiar with, to reverse their Kicker Musical Chairs strategy.
After spending two spells in Dallas, Maher collapsed towards the end of the previous season due to what his supervisor, Cowboys special teams coordinator “Bones” Fassel, referred to as “the yips.”
Maher, 34, has changed a lot during the past 12 months. But now that he’s back in Los Angeles—he scored eight touchdowns in eight games for the Rams earlier this season—he has the opportunity to become a postseason hero, perhaps even at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.
With a win against a miserable Washington team the next week and a No. 2 seed, the 11-5 Cowboys will have an easy path to their home opener.
In the meanwhile, the Rams will be the NFC’s sixth or seventh seed. Additionally, No. 2 will host No. 7. Additionally, Brett Maher might be making a repeat visit to Dallas.
