Before their Original Six game against the Montreal Canadiens at TD Garden on Saturday, the Bruins made a number of roster changes.
In a news statement, Boston general manager Don Sweeney said that defensemen Derek Forbort and Brandon Carlo had been promoted to the active roster. Providence was assigned defenseman Mason Lohrei and forward Johnny Beecher.
Matthew Poitras and Linus Ullmark should be back in the lineup along with Carlo and Forobort. Carlo will play in his first game this Saturday since he acknowledged he had a concussion during the Colorado Avalanche game on January 8. Forbort won’t have played since December 3.
In 27 games with Boston, Beecher scored three goals and provided two assists for a total of five points. In an attempt to find a spark, head coach Jim Montgomery switched the 22-year-old between Jesper Boqvist and Oskar Steen in the fourth line.
This season, Lohrei has mostly served as the blue liner fill-in for injuries. In 27 games this season, he has contributed three goals and three assists for a total of six points with Boston.
As part of their centennial season, the Bruins will honor the “New Blood, New Beginnings” era on Saturday before their game against Montreal in a pregame ceremony. The puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET, and NESN will provide complete coverage beginning at 6 p.m.
