Last night against the Ottawa Senators, the Boston Bruins were able to return to winning ways. Brad Marchand, the captain of the Boston Bruins, emerged as the game’s hero, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime with a deft snap shot.
Although it’s always a wonderful feeling to score in overtime, Marchand’s most recent goal is significant for reasons beyond merely earning the team two points. With this overtime winner, Marchand surpassed Hall of Famer Ray Bourque to become the fifth-highest goal scorer in Bruins history with his 396th goal of the career.
That wasn’t the only significant accomplishment towards this aim, though. The tenacious winger also shared the third-most overtime goals in NHL history with Jaromir Jagr. Given that Jagr is among the greatest players to have ever played in the NHL, that is undoubtedly an amazing accomplishment.
A third-round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Marchand has been one of the greatest draft steals in franchise history. In 995 games with the club, he has 396 goals, 513 assists, and 909 points. He is not slowing down, either, as he has 24 goals and 47 points in 49 games this season
