Matt Grzelcyk had to be helped off the ice just 1:05 into the Boston Bruins’ 6-5 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers and was later ruled out with a lower-body injury.
The Boston Bruins lost a left-shot defenceman to injury for the second straight game. Just 1:05 into the game, Matt Grzelcyk left Boston’s 6-5 overtime victory after being tripped by Ryan McLeod, a forward for the Edmonton Oilers.
Hampus Lindholm (lower body) left the Bruins’ game against the Dallas Stars on Monday; the Swede is sidelined for the week. Regarding Grzelcyk, things seem to be looking up for him.
“He’s doing fairly well. After the game, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery told reporters in Edmonton that his team was “day-to-day right now.”
Montgomery was unable to provide a firm response when asked if Grzelcyk would be available for Thursday’s game against the Calgary Flames.
In Lindholm’s stead on Wednesday, the Bruins recalled Mason Lohrei from AHL Providence on Tuesday. Lindholm will not be traveling with the team for its four-game road trip to Western Canada and Seattle.
In his first NHL multi-point game against Edmonton, the 23-year-old rookie recorded three assists; if both Grzelcyk and Lindholm lose a significant amount of time, Boston will need more from him. In 28 games with Boston this season, Lohrei has nine points (six assists and three goals).
“Just stepping up and trying to make plays every shift to help the team win,” Lohrei said to reporters in Edmonton.
