Three roster moves were announced by the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, signaling the conclusion of one rookie campaign and the potential continuation of another.
Don Sweeney, general manager of the Boston Bruins, stated that the team has recalled defender Mason Lohrei, sent forward Oskar Steen to Providence, and placed forward Matthew Poitras on long-term injured reserve.
For Poitras, who underwent season-ending shoulder surgery at the start of February, it has been a long time coming. It was an illustration of Boston treating Poitras fairly and paving the way for greater success down the road.
Steen was one of the players chosen to increase Poitras’ output, but he has subsequently given up playing time to players like Justin Brazea, Anthony Richard, and Jesper Boqvist.
The circumstances surrounding Lohrei’s return to Boston are not ideal, since defenseman Hampus Lindholm was hurt during the Bruins’ Monday victory over the Dallas Stars.
Before his most recent spell in Providence, the 23-year-old Lohrei made 27 games, tallying three goals and three assists for six points throughout several trips to Boston. In the unlikely event that he plays again, it will probably be because Lindholm is benched for a few games.
The Bruins will take on the Edmonton Oilers at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, following an hour of pregame coverage on NESN.
