Following a humiliating 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders on March 2, it is evident that the Boston Bruins will need to make some choices come 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Their recent setbacks have demonstrated the need for them to bolster their roster in preparation for the postseason. It was recently stated by Cam Neely that the Bruins that “adding a stiff defender would be good”.
Looking at the current trade market, Nick Seeler of the Philadelphia Flyers is one defenseman who may give the Bruins exactly that. The Minnesota native is quietly enjoying a fantastic season with Philadelphia, playing in the top four minutes, and this may be a major asset for the Bruins.
This season, Seeler, 30, has made 62 appearances and recorded one goal, 12 points, 181 blocks, 110 hits, and a plus-15 rating. He has proven to be a reliable member on the Flyers’ blue line, and the Bruins would gain strength in numbers if they were to acquire him before the deadline.
Seeler would help strengthen the Bruins’ weak left side and be a possibility for their second pairing if they were to acquire him. His defensive consistency and aggression would also make him a strong candidate for their penalty kill.
The 6-foot-3 defenseman’s cap hit of $775,000 is also very reasonable, so the Bruins should have no trouble financing him. Therefore, he might be Boston’s ideal trade target at this time.
