Two-way guard Craig Porter Jr. is set to sign a new four-year contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Wichita State product Craig Porter Jr., of the Cleveland Cavaliers, is an undrafted player in the NBA. On July 3, 2023, the Cavaliers signed him to a two-way contract.
So far this season, Porter Jr. has made 32 appearances. He is shooting 50.9% from the field, 33.3% from beyond the arc, and 69.6% from the free-throw line while dishing out 6.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on average.
This season, Porter Jr.’s plus-minus is +27. In November, he played his greatest game of the season against the Denver Nuggets. The native of Indiana shot 7 of 10 overall and 7 of 7 from the foul line to score 21 points and dish out four assists in 24 minutes of play.
Porter Jr. just turned 23. Despite missing seven of the last ten games for the Cavaliers, he has demonstrated enough potential for Cleveland management to offer him a new contract.
This season, the Cavaliers are 35-17. According to the Eastern Conference standings, they are in second position. Cleveland’s executive staff did not make any trades during the NBA trade deadline because the team is currently performing well.
Both points scored and points allowed per game rank the Cavaliers second and fifteenth in the NBA, respectively. For the first time since the second LeBron James era began, they appear to be genuine title contenders after going 17-2 over their last 19 games.
Cleveland finished the 2023–2024 season with 51 wins, but lost five games to the New York Knicks in the opening round of the playoffs. The players are desperate to make a deep run in the postseason this year after their humiliation at the hands of the Knicks.
Tomorrow, February 14, the Cavaliers take on the Chicago Bulls. Their last game before the All-Star break is this one.
