Philadelphia Eagles second-year offensive lineman Tyler Steen could compete to be the starter at left guard depending on whether Jason Kelce decides to retire
PHILADELPHIA: Jason Kelce will soon have to announce his retirement. He has to, as that choice will be based on how the Philadelphia Eagles’ offseason plays out.
Depending on how they felt Cam Jurgens held up during the season, the Eagles’ offensive line will likely remain the same even if the veteran center returns.
Prior to being placed on injured reserve due to a foot ailment, Jurgens had a strong start to the season. His play wasn’t as steady after the injury as it was when he got back.
His grade of 63.0 from Pro Football Focus ranked him 29th among players at his position in the NFL. In contrast, Landon Dickerson, a left guard, was ranked 16th by PFF.
If Kelce does not return, Jurgens would likely slide into the center spot, a position he is much better acquainted with after playing it for all four of his years at the University of Nebraska. It’s why he was drafted in the second round two years ago at No. 51 overall when they could have had one of the 10 players taken right after him:
