Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas declared his continued existence on social media on Friday.
Why? Because Fox News incorrectly displayed a visual on television earlier in the day, claiming that Thomas had passed away in 2023.
Fox News announced Thomas’s passing with a graphic and an image during their year-end “In Memorium” broadcast. A photo of Frank Thomas, also known as the “Big Hurt,” was included in the program. But that was the wrong Frank Thomas. Frank Thomas, a former major league player, passed away in January, but he was not a Hall of Famer.
More coverage of the incident and Fox’s ensuing apology can be seen here, at Horrible Announcing.
From 1951 to 1966, the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, and Milwaukee Braves were among the teams that the Thomas who did pass played for. He hit thirty home runs in 1953 and thirty-five in 1958, and he was a three-time All-Star.
The more accustomed After 19 years in the major leagues with the Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and Oakland Athletics, Thomas, who is currently 55 years old, left the league. He was a batting champion, a five-time All-Star, a two-time MVP, and a four-time Silver Slugger.
Throughout his career, he hit.301 and had 521 home runs.
The reference to “my ex-employer” in Thomas’ speech is related to his previous position as a baseball analyst for Fox Sports.
