Joel Embiid’s 133-123 victory over the San Antonio Spurs made him only the ninth player in NBA history to score 70 points or more in a game.
His 70 points eclipsed the franchise mark of 68 points, which had been held since 1967 by the great Wilt Chamberlain.
In addition, Embiid grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and provided five assists.
“Anything can happen when he gets motivated like that,” 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said.
“He has a lot of ways to score. He gets a lot of things around the basket and a lot of free throws because of his sheer size.
“And the ability that makes it particularly difficult to stop him is his shooting touch.”
With 18 points, Tyrese Maxey was the next highest scoring player for the 76ers, while Victor Wembanyama, the first round pick overall, led the Spurs with 33 points.
The Spurs sit at the basement of the Western Conference with just eight wins from 43 games, while the 76ers, who have won three straight games, are third in the Eastern Conference.
