If, like me, you enjoy seeing which Braves are wearing which numbers, then the Braves’ busy offseason is fantastic. We go down the new number assignments for Atlanta Braves players, from the new guys to a few who have decided that a number like #73 didn’t fit their back.
The source of these number assignments is Braves.com. Throughout Spring Training, I was able to follow MLB Jersey Numbers on Twitter and read postings on the Braves. Baseball Reference provides information about the last player to wear a particular number.
New number, same team
These are folks you know, but they’re rebranding themselves with a new number for 2024.

The last person to wear AJ Smith-Shawver #32 (formerly #62) was Collin McHugh (2022–2023).
AJ Smith-Shawver has only been a pitcher for three years, but he made a big splash last year. Smith-Shawver has chosen to downsize after being given a large number during their rookie season, as many starters do, and he is wearing #32 during Spring Training.
The last person to wear Darius Vines #61 (formerly #64) was Nick Anderson in 2023.
Like many starting pitchers who make the jump to the majors following their rookie season, Darius Vines has also chosen to accept a lesser number. In contrast to Smith-Shawver, he has chosen to stick with #61, which is only three digits lower than his prior number.
Daysbel Hernandez #62 (formerly #75) | AJ Smith-Shawver (2023) was the last person to wear it.
Hernandez, in his first season wearing #75, made four appearances for the Braves during the regular season last year. AJ Smith-Shawver’s old number will be his tool as he attempts to get into the squad this season.
See a glimpse of him in his new number in this Instagram video by Reynaldo Lopez.
