Tottenham Hotspur are one of several clubs interested in Rennes teenager Desire Doue, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. The 18-year-old is widely considered as one of the most exciting talents in Europe, with many teams monitoring Doue over the last few years since he broke onto the scene in France.
Rennes could demand around Ā£35 million to allow him to leave during the summer transfer window, according to reports earlier this summer, which could leave a slew of clubs interested in signing him ahead of a summer departure. Despite signing Archie Gray from Leeds United earlier this week after a Ā£40 million bid that included Joe Rodon going the other way was accepted, the north London club is interested in bringing Doue in alongside the English prodigy, with Romano claiming Tottenham have contacted his representatives.
Romano: Tottenham “Make Contact” Regarding Doue Move
Speaking on his live show on Playback on Tuesday afternoon, Romano stated that Tottenham were not slowing down in the transfer market despite the arrival of Gray, with 19-year-old Doue also on their radar. He said:
“It’s true that Tottenham have a genuine interest in this boy. This is not something new. I mean, the interest is there and he is one of the players appreciated by the Tottenham board.
“Doue is one of the best talents in his position, and he is on the list of several clubs and the list of Tottenham.
“First of all, Tottenham have signed Archie Gray and that is a wonderful signing for Tottenham. But it’s also true that Desire Doue is another player they are considering. Internally, they already expressed their interest to the agents of the player, so Doue is one to watch for Tottenham – but not only for Tottenham, as several clubs are following this boy.”
The Italian journalist then added another statement:
“I told you that interest in Desire Doue is absolutely confirmed. He is not the only player they are tracking, but one of the players they are considering.”
Doue’s Signing Could Mean a Bright Future for Tottenham
Doue entered Rennes’ academy at the age of five and signed his first professional contract with the club in April 2022, before turning 17. Doue made his Rennes debut shortly after and hasn’t slowed down since. Playing in an attacking midfield position, he has performed enormously and has been dubbed “unique” by football pundit Ben Mattinson.
Last season, he made 31 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes, finishing in mid-table, scoring four goals and registering five assists, including a standout showing against Lyon in January, where he scored and assisted on the left flank.
Doue’s versatility across the midfield three makes him a hot commodity in Europe, and with Tottenham potentially signing him on a permanent deal that would bring him in alongside other young talents such as Gray, Micky van de Ven, and Pape Matar Sarr, the future could be bright in north London as Ange Postecoglou aims for the long term.
