Going into the 2024 season, the Atlanta Falcons have a lot to cheer about, but they still need to decide which position is the most crucial one on the team. Over the past few weeks, quarterback rumors have been surfacing at an alarming rate, and they won’t likely stop unless the team takes action.
Atlanta is presently the betting favorite for both Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins in 2024, which has led to increased speculation regarding the two players. The Falcons should select a quarterback in the draft because there are too many excellent options available, regardless of whether the team adds a seasoned player in the offseason.
Will they target one of the top three quarterbacks in the class—Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye—or will they remain at No. 8 and choose a player like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy? In a fresh mock draft, published by Dane Brugler of The Athletic, Atlanta trades up to choose No. 3 and selects Daniels from LSU:
Daniels’ 40 touchdowns and four interceptions throughout the Tigers’ season earned him the Heisman Trophy this year. Landing LSU’s dual-threat would probably please Falcons supporters, but it wouldn’t come cheap.
In order to move up five spots, Brugler had the team give up two first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Patriots. Ultimately, it all depends on how certain the front office is that the move is worth the risk. It’s probably time to take a chance after missing the playoffs for six consecutive seasons.
