On Monday morning, longtime NFL columnist Peter King announced his retirement. However, before he bids adieu, he shared his predictions for the near future. Atlanta Falcons was one of those takes.
Though he believes it may happen with the Washington Commanders rather than the Atlanta Falcons, King said that he sees the “wind blowing” in the Chicago Bears’ favor to retain Justin Fields and trade out of the first pick.
But he thinks the Bears would be a good trade partner for the Falcons after obtaining the No. 2 pick.
“The Bears could keep Justin Fields (and should), and trade the first pick down once or twice, and build the kind of supporting cast a team needs to contend,” King stated. Assume that general manager Ryan Poles sent Washington, which would have selected Caleb Williams, the top pick in exchange for the second pick, a second-round selection, and a first-round selection in 2025. Let’s say that at selection eight, the Poles traded Atlanta the second pick, and the Falcons selected one of the other
The Falcons are effectively sending two second-round picks and their 2025 first-round pick to move up to No. 2 in the transaction, which consists of numerous steps. The Falcons would have an option between LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye with their second pick, if the Commanders choose Caleb Williams with the first round.
