Kirk Cousins may want payment from the Atlanta Falcons in order for him to join the team.
The Atlanta Falcons are undoubtedly keeping an eye on Kirk Cousins as they get ready for free agency the next week.
Although Cousins, 36, is among the top free agents available, how much will other clubs be willing to pay him?
The source claims that even though Cousins is only 4½ months away from a torn right Achilles, there is no need to overthink this one because he will profit once again. In a weak market with many teams searching for an upgrade, he is the best quarterback available in free agency. He was playing terrific football at the time of his injury. I wouldn’t be shocked if you told me Cousins would agree to a two-year, $100 million contract with full guarantees.
After signing a three-year, $90 million contract, Cousins knows that this could be his last major contract in the NFL, so he wants every penny. But for the next two seasons, is he really worth $100 million?
There are reasons to sign Cousins and not sign him, but signing Cousins would burn up almost all of their cap space. The Falcons still need a quarterback, so in order to sign Cousins, they could have to sign someone with less talent at other positions.
The Falcons desperately need an upgrade at quarterback, though, so if Cousins plays out, it will be well worth the possible $100 million price tag.
The formal start of NFL free agency is this Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
