After the Bruins’ fifth straight victory, Jeremy Swayman was beaming, but there was also a hint of regret.
Early in the third period, Swayman was attempting to clear the puck along the boards when he unintentionally struck a referee with the ball behind Boston’s net. After the official went down to the ice, play was temporarily halted. Swayman and Charlie McAvoy attended to him there before TD Garden play continued.
Following his 21-save effort against the Winnipeg Jets, the All-Star goalie apologized for the mishap and offered his condolences to the referee.
“I hit a boy in stripes tonight because I felt so bad.” According to a team-provided video, Swayman told reporters, “I felt so bad” following Boston’s 4-1 victory. “We shared laughter throughout the entire game.” He will have a great bruise on his shoulder near the NHL logo. However, I told him that I had been there. I’m so sorry. I’m sorry, buddy.
Luckily for Swayman, Monday night’s low points were few and far between, including the referee incident. When the Bruins play the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday, they’ll aim to continue their winning streak. The competition will be fully covered by NESN starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
