The best hockey players in the region are returning to the National Hockey League.
The Boston Bruins activated Johnny Beecher of Elmira on an emergency basis on Wednesday, bringing him back from their AHL affiliate in Providence. Without affecting the total salary cap, the move gives the franchise more flexibility when it comes to recalling players between Boston and Providence.
Prior to Boston’s Thursday night game against the Montreal Canadiens, general manager of the Boston Bruins Don Sweeney made the announcement in a press release. On Wednesday, Beecher attended Boston’s morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena.
Beecher, a first-round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2019 NHL Draft, finished the season with two assists and five goals in 39 games for the team. With Providence, Beecher, 22, recorded four goals and four assists in 17 games. AHL Three Star winner Beecher was recognized just last week for his superb play on the ice, which included two goals in a victory over Springfield.
On January 13, Johnny played his final NHL game with Boston against St. Louis. The game against Montreal on Thursday night will be broadcast on ESPN+ starting at 7:00 PM.
