Juan Soto will have at least one contract record for the 2024 season thanks to the New York Yankees’ guarantee.
According to MLB.com, the New York Yankees signed outfielder Juan Soto to a one-year contract worth $31 million for 2024, making him the highest-paid player eligible for arbitration in history.
The agreement surpasses the record set by Los Angeles Angels and Shohei Ohtani during his final arbitration season, when they worked out a one-year, $30 million deal.
The Yankees are still able to sign a long-term contract with Soto, who will become a free agent following the 2024 campaign, despite the arbitration agreement.
With just Thursday left for the Yankees to finalize arbitration agreements with their remaining players, Soto’s pact was a major one. As of Thursday night, the Post reports that there was only one disclosed deal, a $860,000 deal with pitcher Victor Gonzalez. Things swiftly shifted, and on Thursday night, the Yankees and every eligible player had reached an agreement.
Maybe the top objective was to get something done with Soto. It is difficult to assign responsibility to the Yankees.
Soto finished sixth in the National League in 2023 and has been in the Top 10 MVP votes four times. After hitting.275/.410/.519/.930 with 35 home runs and 109 RBI, he was deserving of those votes. In addition, he participated in every game of a season for the first time in his career and made his third trip to the All-Star Game.
According to the New York Post, infielder Gleyber Torres, a third-year player eligible for arbitration, reached an agreement to sign a $14.2 million one-year contract with the Yankees.
