This type of deal, which supposedly pays Landon Dickerson more than any other guard in NFL history, is consistent with the Philadelphia Eagles’ strategy of making trench-level investments. And with Dickerson’s Tuesday-signed contract, which will keep him an Eagle until the 2028 campaign, Philadelphia has made an investment in a guy who has already appeared in two Pro Bowls and is only entering his prime years of dominance.
Following his signing, Dickerson gave a press conference at the NovaCare Complex. “It just shows a lot of respect, how much trust they have in me to continue to grow as a player, develop, and do good things for this team and this City,” Dickerson stated. “I think I can definitely step up and take on more of a leadership position as I enter my fourth year. The fact that I was extended truly demonstrates the regard and potential Howie Roseman, the coaches, and I all hold for me as a player. That just serves to fuel my desire to keep trying to get better and raise my game every single day.”
Dickerson, a 2021 second-round draft selection, has improved steadily and significantly at the guard position. He replaced an injured Brandon Brooks in Week 2 of his rookie campaign, switched to the left side, and made the first of his two Pro Bowls as the team advanced to Super Bowl LVII in 2022.
With his best friend, left tackle Jordan Mailata, on his left side of the line, Dickerson is a formidable force. With Jason Kelce retired, Dickerson and the entire offensive line will need to get used to a new center. Cam Jurgens has a lot of faith in him if he moves from right guard to center to replace Kelce, but Dickerson is ready for anything.
When the 6-foot-6, 332-pound Dickerson was drafted out of Alabama, many analysts predicted he would be the next big thing to Kelce. However, his play at left guard has been so good that the Eagles want to keep him there as a developing player.
Dickerson understood how unique it is to be an Eagle and to play in Philadelphia with its fantastic sports culture, so he decided to sign his deal now rather than play out the remaining years of his rookie contract.
Dickerson remarked, “Coming here has been a huge bright spot in my life.” “His family and I had no intention of going anywhere else. Guys, imagine how much they will miss everything about this area when they leave this organization and relocate somewhere. For my part, I just wanted it to be clear how much I wanted to come here, stay for a while, and ideally spend my entire career here.
“The way this team is fed by the City and the supporters, and vice versa. Many people aren’t capable of playing there because it’s a highly hard environment, but I personally adore it. Every season brings with it high expectations. I simply adore the fervor that this city and everyone here exude.”
