According to the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings, Hugh Freeze and Auburn are still rising.
Despite starting the day ranked in the top 15, the Tigers’ recruiting class will finish just outside the top 10 after four-star offensive lineman DeAndre Carter of Santa Ana, California’s Mater Dei committed.
Based on a weighted average that takes into account all four of the main recruiting media firms, the On3 Industry Ranking ranks the massive 6-foot-3, 345-pound player as the 151st overall player in the 2024 cycle. In addition, he is the No. 16 player and No. 8 IOL in California.
Carter was first made available by Auburn on January 5. More than two dozen Power 5 universities, including Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Texas, and others, have also made similar offers. On Sunday, he went with the Tigers over the Longhorns and Spartans.
After his Big Cat Weekend visit in late July, Carter told Auburn Live that one of the main reasons he liked Auburn’s program so much was the family atmosphere there.
Carter remarked, “Family—I mean, I love everything—but I think that the family atmosphere stands out more than the others.” “I feel it a lot here, but a lot of colleges claim to have it.”
In addition to raising the Tigers’ profile, his pledge gives them a total of 18 commitments for the 2024 class. Thirteen of those are blue-chippers, nationally rated as 4- or 5-star recruits.
The Tigers have been incredibly successful this summer, despite having a somewhat sluggish recruiting start in the early months of Freeze’s tenure. Since June 1, they have made 13 commitments in total.
This includes luring local five-star receiver Demarcus Riddick from Georgia just three days prior to the end of July, and stealing in-state five-star wide out Perry Thompson from bitter rival Alabama.
After flipping his promise, Thompson said to On3’s Chad Simmons, “I can go build that legacy at Auburn.” “I can be the program’s guy and someone who helps turn things around. It’s just that I think it’s the ideal place to start.
Hugh Freeze and the staff have given me top consideration ever since he arrived at Auburn. I feel wanted by Coach Freeze, Coach Marcus Davis, the entire staff, and the supporters. Simply put, I feel differently at Auburn.
Now tied for sixth place in this cycle’s number of blue-chip pledges are the Tigers, Oregon, and Notre Dame.
