It didn’t take Hugh Freeze very long, or even very far, to find his next defensive line coach.
The Jacksonville Jaguars appointed in-house defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett as their new defensive line coach last week, replacing the former coach. Brian Stultz of Auburn Rivals reports that Vontrell King-Williams, an analyst, has been promoted to defensive line coach.
King-Williams began working with Freeze’s team in January of last year as an analyst, mostly assisting Garrett and Auburn’s defensive line. King-Williams was a graduate assistant for Eastern Michigan from 2018 to 2019 and the 2022 season’s defensive line coach before joining Auburn. He spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons as a defensive graduate assistant on Freeze’s Liberty staff.
In an interview with Auburn Undercover from previous year, Garrett mentioned King-Williams and said that he is skilled at fostering relationships with athletes.
“He’s an excellent coach. He’s an astute coach. He’s an excellent teacher. Regarding King-Williams, Garrett remarked, “He gets to know those guys well and knows the players.” “I simply believe that with what he brings to the table, we’ll be a formidable team in both attracting and training these guys.”
The personnel will change as a result of King-Williams’ ascension to the on-field staff. According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, DJ Durkin, the newly appointed defensive coordinator, will oversee linebackers, while Josh Aldridge, the linebackers coach, will now instruct EDGE rushers.
