2025 three-star linebacker Kris Thompson (Nashville, Tenn.) earned an offer from the Tennessee Volunteers over the weekend during an unofficial visit.
Another great recruiting event held in Tennessee recently drew a large number of in-state targets and high-level prospects for an enjoyable weekend. Kris Thompson, a linebacker at Lipscomb Academy, was one of those names. He was once teammates with linebacker Edwin Spillman and cornerback Kaleb Beasley, both of whom signed with Tennessee. Thompson, who came back to Volunteer Country following his spell, is ranked No. 748 in the 2025 class by 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
“The visit was great; as soon as I walked in, I felt nothing but love,” said Thompson. Thompson accepted his Tennessee offer during his visit. Thompson said, “I really just started giving Jesus Christ all the praise because it was his timing!” in response to a question concerning his offer.
He was asked what, in his opinion, made Tennessee special. “The relationship coaches build with players is unique to me; I only got asked maybe two questions about football the whole day,” the prospect from my state says. He told Volunteer Country that he spent the majority of the day with his position coach, saying, “I spent the entire day with Coach [Brian Jean-Mary], and we had a great connection and a great day together. I was told to keep grinding and make plays because, with further improvement, the possibilities are endless.
He got to talk to Beasley, his old teammate, over the phone. “I got to connect with Kaleb; he called me after I got offered and just expressed how proud he was and that I know where home is.” Being an in-state talent gives Tennessee an advantage, but landing him on a visit is even more significant. Should they advance farther, the Vols appear to be a good choice for the linebacker.
