Philadelphia 76ers guard Patrick Beverley has remained in the league due to his leadership qualities in addition to his defensive prowess. The team’s rising star received some harsh love, which the veteran recently talked out about.
Joel Embiid was sidelined for the Sixers’ Christmas Day game against the Miami Heat. Despite being asked to spearhead the attack, Tyrese Maxey had one of his poorest performances of the year. Despite shooting just 4-for-20 from the field, he finished with just 12 points.
In a recent podcast interview, Maxey discussed what Beverley told him following that game. Beverley clarified that they need more from him on evenings when Embiid isn’t playing, despite the fact that some were writing off the performance as an off night. Later, he brought up the topic on his podcast, where he explained his train of thought at the time.
“I don’t play about my young guys, I want them to get everything they deserve in life,” Beverley stated. “I ain’t here for a check, I’m here for your legacy only.”
