This offseason, the Philadelphia Phillies have been rather sluggish. The organization hasn’t made many roster improvements since re-signing Aaron Nola, and the Phillies won’t be making any significant acquisitions until the regular season begins.
There are two relievers that the Phillies appear interested in, despite the ongoing volatility in the free-agent market. The Phillies are reportedly interested in signing both pitchers and may be in contact with both, according to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
According to several reports, the Phillies were in contact with righty Phil Maton, but nothing has come of it, writes Lauber.
“A source stated that they have shown interest in Jakob Junis, but the 31-year-old righty would be better suited as a multi-inning swingman than a late-game option.”
Both pitchers are of interest to the Phillies, but nothing is official yet.
not yet. Both players have seven seasons of experience despite their youth.
Phil Maton was a key member of the Houston Astros bullpen for the previous three seasons. Over 162 games and 157 innings, Maton had a 3.67 ERA with a 111 ERA+. He also performed well in the postseason by lowering his ERA when it mattered most.
Jakob Junis’s performance has been mediocre in comparison to Maton’s. Although Junis had a 4.64 ERA, his experience as a starter may provide the Phillies bullpen a lot more choices.
Fan expectations will have to wait for an official confirmation as the team is still in negotiations with players.
Kolby Allard, a left-handed pitcher, was recently signed by the Philadelphia Phillies.
Kolby Allard inked a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday. Allard has a $1 million contract, with an additional $125,000 available through Major League Baseball incentives. The Minor League is guaranteed $375,000 under the terms of the split contract.
The left-hander played for four seasons with the Texas Rangers, from 2019 to 2022. He has a record of nine wins and 24 losses with a 6.10 ERA and one save in six major league seasons.
