KNOXVILLE, Tenn. On Tuesday, January 2, Tennessee wide receiver Bru McCoy revealed that he will be returning to Rocky Top for his last year of eligibility. Due to a fractured dislocation of his right ankle sustained during Tennessee’s victory over South Carolina, the redshirt senior missed the final seven games of the season.
McCoy has 17 receptions for 217 yards and one touchdown in the 2023 campaign. After transferring from USC, he collected 52 receptions for 667 yards and four touchdowns in his debut season as a Vol.
Several of McCoy’s teammates encouraged him to return the next season before he made the decision to return to UT. A few days prior to the Citrus Bowl, Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava told the media that the Vols would greatly benefit from having a seasoned receiver in the room in 2024.
Receivers Squirrel White, Chas Nimrod, Kaleb Webb, and Dont’e Thronton Jr. are anticipated to return for the upcoming campaign in addition to McCoy. In November, Thornton sustained a leg injury against Missouri that ended his season. In order to add extra depth in that area, Tennessee also selected Chris Brazzell II, a transfer receiver from Tulane.
