One of the best basketball teams ever is being assembled by Team USA basketball.
How better to describe this squad as the greatest of all time than to point out that it has LeBron James, the current Los Angeles Laker, who is perhaps the best basketball player of all time. Even though he may not be at the top of his game right now, he is still a fierce rival.
James is among the few athletes who are seen as a “lock” for the summer games, according to Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic.
After competing in the 2008, 2012, and 2004 Olympics, James would be making his fourth trip to the games.
In two of his three appearances (2008 and 2012), he took home the gold medal, while in 2004, he won the bronze.
Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant are the other elite players regarded as “locks.” On paper, this club already has problems with these five players alone, and this is just the start of what should be a strong roster.
In pairs, Team USA will be aiming for their fifth consecutive gold medal and their 17th overall. The United States has been the loser in this event. These summer games will be the hardest yet due to the game’s global expansion.
But with Hall of Famer after Hall of Famer and an excellent coaching staff in their corner, the United States ought to be the clear favorite to win the gold once more.
