Major League Baseball is altering the rules of the game in 2024 following a season filled with rule changes in 2023.
According to Talkin’ Baseball on Facebook:
Changes for 2024 have been authorized by the MLB competition committee, according to @JesseRogersESPN:
Pitch clock: 18 seconds, runners on
– Four as opposed to five mound visits
-A pitcher must face at least one hitter if he warms up prior to an inning.
-The infield grass widened the runner’s lane to 1B.
The goal of almost all of this is to speed up the game even further. Although the pitch clock and related rule changes were a huge success in 2023, baseball wants to maintain the briskness of play. As the season progressed, game times skewed slower once more, but they were still faster than before.

The head of the Players Association, Tony Clark, opposed the ratification of the changes:
The statement says, “Player Representatives voted this afternoon against the 2024 rule changes proposed by the Commissioner’s Office.” “Players strongly believe that, in light of the significant modifications to the core rules of the game enacted last season, immediate additional changes are superfluous and provide no discernible benefits to viewers, players, or the competition on the field, as they made clear in the Competition Committee.
Pitch clocks with runners on used to be 20 seconds, but they are now just 18 seconds. A few pitchers who consistently advocated for 20 seconds will never get it now.
