The Afghanistan spinner was punished by the ACB last month for contract violations. He was a key player in Renegades’ lone victory this BBL season.
The Melbourne Renegades’ upcoming BBL matchup against the Melbourne Stars on Tuesday will not include Mujeeb Ur Rahman due to a “change to his No-Objection Certificate (NOC) conditions”.
Mujeeb had requested to be removed from the central contracts list for 2024, and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had granted him permission along with fast bowlers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi. The three were ordered to forfeit whatever current NoCs they may have and refrain from participating in T20 leagues for the next two years.
The Renegades had previously declared in a statement that they “will continue to support him for the remainder of the BBL season” and that they had “received no communication that Mujeeb’s availability for the BBL could change from original plans.” “Mujeeb Ur Rahman has been removed from the squad after a change to his NOC conditions made him unavailable for the match,” reads a new statement that was released today.
After that, Naveen and Farooqi sought the ACB and, according to the board, “demonstrated a strong desire to represent their country again”. After that, the two were included in Afghanistan’s 18-man team for the current Twenty20 International Series against the United Arab Emirates, however Mujeeb was left out.
Mujeeb, who went 3 for 20 against Adelaide Strikers on December 29, was a major factor in Renegades’ first and only BBL victory of the season. At the ODI World Cup, he made his Afghanistan debut.
Afghanistan and the UAE are presently playing a three-match Twenty20 International series. They soundly won the first Twenty20 International, but fell short by 11 runs in the second. Tuesday is when the series’ third and final game will take place.
