Chris Sale, a seven-time All-Star, was recently moved by Boston, and it is said that the team plans to further reduce payroll. Although Boston’s specific plans are unknown, star closer Kenley Jansen has been floated as a trade prospect in the previous week or two.
In addition to Jansen, the Red Sox have several fascinating players on their roster, like as fellow reliever Chris Martin, who may be traded. Although the reason behind Boston’s attempt to reduce salaries is unknown, changes may be coming.
The New York Mets are one team that has been mentioned as a potential trade partner by Boston if the Red Sox decide to transfer Jansen or Martin, according to Metsmerized Online’s Patrick Glynn.
“It was reported that the Red Sox are looking to continue to shed salaries to make room for other free agents,” Glynn stated. “Being the Boston Red Sox, one of the most valued teams in baseball, this is completely needless. However, other teams can try to make an impact by making a trade for Red Sox players with greater wages after the Braves took a chance on Chris Sale.
“Two Sox right-handed relievers who potentially suit the bill are Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive, Boston is apparently searching for controllable pitching while cutting salaries. Starting pitchers can provide good value, as the Red Sox have demonstrated. A variety of names, including as Tyler Stuart, Justin Jarvis, Jose Butto, and Joey Lucchesi, might be utilized in different kinds of trades, depending on the Sox’s willingness to pay and whether or not both relievers are involved.”
It’s too soon to tell if the Red Sox will sell either pitcher, but if they do, New York should be on their radar.
