On Monday night, the Seattle Kraken overcame David Pastrnak’s hat trick to defeat the Boston Bruins 4-3 thanks to a goal from Kailer Yamamoto in a shootout.
Seattle scored goals from Jordan Eberle, Vince Dunn, and Oliver Bjorkstrand as they twice overcame a deficit to tie the game. All three of the Bruins’ shootout tries were stopped by Philipp Grubauer, with Pastrnak making the final denial.
Boston had now gone over regulation time in six consecutive games. The Bruins (34-12-14) equaled Vancouver (not playing) for the most points in the NHL with 82 points after gaining one point.
Boston is 2-2-5 in its last nine games following a 1-0-3 trip in which it lost the last three games.
For the Kraken, Grubauer made 29 saves. He was given the start in Saturday’s 5-2 home loss to Minnesota, coming in early in the second period to replace Joey Daccord.
Boston’s Linus Ullmark stopped twenty-three shots.
In the shootout, Yamamoto got the better of Ullmark with a forehand stroke. After that, Grubauer made saves against Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Charlie Coyle.
At 5:53 of the first period, Pastrnak got the Bruins on the scoreboard. Deep in his own end, Kevin Shattenkirk got the ball and sent it to Pasternak, who was cutting through the middle of the ice before Will Borgen and Jamie Oleksiak, two Seattle defenders. Pastrnak faced Grubauer one-on-one and sent the puck high into the net and above his glove.
Pastrnak scored his 700th career point with his 37th goal of the year. He is the tenth member of the Bruins to accomplish that feat.
At 4:45 in the second, Eberle tied the score with his 14th of the year on a power play. At 17:08, Pastrnak gave Boston the lead again. At 5:29 of the third, Dunn’s 10th goal tied the score once more.
With 5:30 remaining in the third, Bjorkstrand scored his 14th goal for the Kraken, putting the team ahead 3-2 after deflecting an Alex Wennberg shot past Ullmark.
After 2:52 remained in regulation, Pastrnak knotted the score at three.

With his 37th goal of the year, Pastrnak reached 700 points in his career. He became the tenth player from the Bruins to accomplish that feat.
