Ranchers Dallas Cuts Former First-Round LB Adds Lineman Matt Waletzko to the Roster by Rashaan Evans
FRICO – For the past month and more, the Dallas Cowboys have been looking for backup linebacker assistance. Additionally, they are currently looking for additional offensive line insurance.
They have, for the time being at least, given up on the former, and they hope to have fulfilled the latter on this Wednesday inside The Star.
As the 10-5 team headed to the playoffs gets ready for its home game against the 11-4 Detroit Lions on Saturday night and for the future as well, they have made two relevant roster adjustments.
Matt Waletzko, a tackle selected in the fifth round of the previous season, has struggled with shoulder issues ever since coming to this team. After the team’s final cuts this summer, the 6-7, 305-pound player was placed on injured reserve. However, it was recently determined that he was fit enough to have his 21-day activation window open.
Waletzko can be useful there, even though Dallas is optimistic that left tackle Tyron Smith—who is dealing with a back issue—will be OK for Detroit.
Meanwhile, linebacker Rashaan Evans is the unfortunate player who loses a roster place in this shuffle. There has been a vacancy in the linebackers room since Leighton Vander Esch suffered a neck injury that ended the season.
Evans was a first-round selection of the Titans in 2018. He made nine appearances for the Cowboys and recorded nine tackles. The team will mostly still rely on Markquese Bell and Damone Clark at linebacker with him gone.
