The individual wasn’t acquired by the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox said that this summer would go “full throttle” as the team tried to return to contention following another last-place showing in 2023. Even though there is still a long offseason ahead of us, things haven’t gone quite as planned thus far. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the former ace of the Orix Buffaloes, earned a huge contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, therefore Boston was unable to sign him. The Red Sox now have to get back together and start over.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the former ace of the Orix Buffaloes, earned a huge contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, therefore Boston was unable to sign him. The Red Sox now have to get back together and start over. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, there are still a lot of fascinating arms available. Blake Snell, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, and Jordan Montgomery, a reliable lefty, are two that could be choices for the Red Sox.
“What does ‘full throttle’ mean to you? When Craig Breslow was named chief baseball officer, Red Sox chairman Tom Werner used that phrase to characterize the team’s offseason strategy, Rosenthal said. But the most noteworthy addition for the Sox thus far is outfielder Tyler O’Neill.
An obvious pivot for a team in need of a top-of-the-rotation starter would be Snell or Montgomery. Even yet, the Sox may find it difficult to compete in the American League East, which is dominated by teams like the 101-win Baltimore Orioles, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, and the rotation-rich Toronto Blue Jays.”

At this point, Snell and Montgomery have both been connected to the Red Sox on several occasions. After Yamamoto made his choice, there will likely be a significant increase in the market for free agency starting pitchers.
The Red Sox will need to act swiftly if they hope to retain their best starters.
