When the 2024 season arrives, one of the finest pitchers for the Boston Red Sox might find himself in a different rotation.
Boston has recently been the subject of many rumors and is attempting to reduce salaries. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Red Sox have notified clubs that All-Star closer Kenley Jansen is available in potential trade negotiations. Exactly what will happen is unknown.
“The Boston Red Sox are telling teams that All-Star closer Kenley Jansen, who’s scheduled to earn $16 million, is available,” Nightengale stated. “They also are open to listening on offers for outfielder Masataka Yoshida, who has four years and $72 million remaining on his contract.”
Over the past week, Jansen has been the subject of multiple trade speculations, and it’s easy to understand why. Despite his great performance with Boston in the previous season and his fourth All-Star selection, he is 36 years old and will receive $16 million in salary in 2024.
The Red Sox could transfer Chris Martin or Tanner Houck into the closer position if they traded him, in addition to saving money that they could use elsewhere.
Because this offseason has been much slower than previous, it’s still too early to say if a move will occur. This offseason, there hasn’t been as much movement, and some stars are still available for free. Even though this is the case, it wouldn’t be too shocking to see a team trade for Jansen in order to acquire Josh Hader, another excellent closer.
