The legal troubles for former Ohio State Buckeyes standout Damon Arnette have continued to be a major issue.
According to an NFL source Ian Rapoport report, former Ohio State defensive back Damon Arnette was charged on January 6 with unauthorized handgun carrying and possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine.
According to reports, the incident happened in Richardson, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, where he was born
“Legal counsel for Mr. Arnette, stated that the recent report that he was arrested for possession of methamphetamines and firearms is simply incorrect,” read the statement. “Our client was unable to give law enforcement his prescription for a legitimate drug at the time of the stop. There would have been no arrest for either the controlled substance or the weapons if Mr. Arnette had been able to demonstrate that the prescription was prescribed at the time of the stop. Our offices are collaborating with the local law enforcement to resolve this issue prior to the District Attorney’s Office filing any charges.”
Arnette, who was selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has previously run afoul of the law.
In late July of 2023, Arnette was arrested in Miami for driving with a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a controlled substance.
In October 2022, he was also charged with causing injuries in a hit-and-run collision. In November of the same year, he was accused of verbally abusing a casino employee after misplacing his valet parking receipt.
Later that month, Arnette made an appearance on TikTok, where he brandished multiple firearms and made death threats toward an unidentified victim. This led to Arnette’s departure from the Raiders.
He joined the Miami Dolphins practice squad for the last month of the season before signing a reserve/future deal in January with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nine days after Arnette was taken into custody in Las Vegas and charged with two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of possession of illegal drugs, and one count of carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, the Chiefs released him.
In August of 2023, Arnette later entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor assault and drawing a deadly weapon.
Regarding the incident, Arnette’s legal representative released a statement refuting the report.
