The Philadelphia Phillies have failed to win a title in either of the previous two seasons.
Although qualifying for both the World Series and the NLCS in consecutive seasons is a noteworthy accomplishment, the Phillies recognize that they still have to go farther.
A roster assembled by Dave Dombrowski has a chance to fulfill that duty. Philadelphia has the same chance as any other baseball team, barring injuries and other circumstances.
It will all depend on what they accomplish in October.
In his remarks to the media on the previous two years, manager Rob Thomson made a suggestion that his team is driven to win everything in 2024.
“They have drive. We’ve tasted it for the past two years. It is what they desire. They wish to extract and ingest a sizable portion of it.”
Spirit should be at an all-time high, particularly following their devastating 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks at home in the NLCS last season.
This year is distinct for the Phillies.
They had to cope with injuries to Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins, and other players in the beginning of 2023, Trea Turner’s sluggish start, and other problems.
Though it’s not the most essential thing, winning the NL East is something they should aim for this year after that early stretch put them in a practically impossible position to do it.
With so many veterans on their roster, it’s unclear how long Philadelphia will have opportunities to be a competitive club
They will have another chance to complete the job and return the World Series championship to a deserving city in 2024.
