The defensive line for the Auburn Tigers is in an intriguing situation.
Hugh Freeze’s first full summer as Auburn football’s head coach has seen the Tigers lose a number of senior defensive linemen due to graduation or running out of eligibility. The Jacksonville Jaguars also acquired defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett from them.
Malik Blocton, an Auburn Tigers true freshman, anticipates playing quickly.
In response to a question concerning playing early at Auburn, Blocton stated, “It doesn’t really impact how I practice because I’m going to practice hard regardless.” Though coming in, I was aware of that. I was aware that I would have to participate. (Harris, Marcus) departed. Johnson Lawrence walked away. Rogers, Justin, was heading out. Many of the guys were moving on. I was aware going in that I would need to participate. I was informed by Coach Garrett about this. Vontrell King-Williams informed me about this. Thus, I wasn’t surprised by it.
Blocton is one of a few genuine freshmen who have a chance to make an impact on the Plains and could even push for a starting position. TJ Lindsey and Amaris Williams, two more defensive lineman who can provide strong depth or genuine competition in Auburn’s defensive line room, join Blocton in the 2024 class.
The leader of this room is new. From assistant defensive line coach to lead man, Vontrell King-Williams was elevated, and players generally feel he’s a pleasure to play for.
