This week, a reader asked an old question in a fresh way. When can we anticipate the return of the All-Star Game now that a long-term lease has been signed?
When Camden Yards was only a year old in 1993, the Orioles hosted the All-Star Game for the first time. Nobody could have predicted at the time that the game would not be brought back for more than thirty years, even though it was an enormous success.
Only two All-Star Games have ever taken place in Baltimore: the first one in 1958 and the most recent one 35 years later. The interval between these All-Star Games could be 35 years or more.
All-Star Games through 2026 have been granted by Commissioner Rob Manfred to the Texas Rangers in 2024, the Atlanta Braves in 2025, and the Philadelphia Phillies in 2026.
For the first time, Globe Life Field, Truist Park, and Citizens Bank Park will all host.
Could the Orioles secure a 2027 spot?
Perhaps, but the Orioles haven’t waited as long as two teams with current parks. The last All-Star Game held at Wrigley Field was in 1990, however the venue has since undergone renovations.
The Toronto Blue Jays are in a similar situation. The last time Toronto hosted an All-Star Game was in 1991, two years before the Orioles, and Rogers Centre had a significant refurbishment in the last few years.
