Boston — The top three prospects for the Red Sox are highly anticipated, and a successful spring training may lead to an exponential increase in Roman Anthony’s hype.
The 19-year-old, who is ranked as Boston’s top prospect by Sox Prospects, just finished an outstanding season in which he advanced from Double-A Portland to High-A Greenville from Low-A Salem. Despite having a brief stint with the Sea Dogs, Anthony played in 10 games, hitting one home run and driving in eight runs with a 1.020 OPS.
His ascent to stardom in Boston’s farm system hasn’t, however, stopped him from pursuing his ultimate ambition of playing Major League Baseball.
Receiving recognition is always wonderful. Anthony remarked at the Red Sox development program, “It’s great to see that all the hard work is slowly turning up.” “Since my main objective is to get here and support this team in winning a World Series in Boston, I don’t really give it much thought. Although it’s satisfying to be awarded and have people acknowledge the hard work you do every day, nothing changes in my opinion. The procedure doesn’t change. Still, I want to get here as quickly as possible. But for now, all of that is pleasant.
Along with fellow elite prospects Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel, Anthony will begin the 2018 Double-A Portland season. His stock might keep rising, and this season, a promotion to Triple-A Worcester is not out of the question. But despite lofty expectations, the outfielder’s aims haven’t faltered.
Regarding his objective for this season, Anthony stated, “I think it remains the same.” “I didn’t really know what to anticipate going into spring training, just like last year. I had the same mindset at every level, just attempting to absorb as much knowledge as I could from all the individuals around me who had more experience than I did. I simply attempted to rely on men who have gone through similar experiences as myself and who were in a similar circumstance for the first time. Hence, I believe that no matter the level, the goal is still the same: to constantly improve and learn as much as I can.
While visiting Red Sox development camp, Triston Casas gave the players some straightforward guidance. The Boston first baseman also voiced hope for Anthony’s future, and after seeing what he does in Fort Myers, Florida, Red Sox supporters may share that hope.
