Washington Wizards point guard Tyus Jones doesn’t seem to be on the Philadelphia 76ers’ radar, despite reports that the team is searching for backcourt support (Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports).
“Philly has been conducting due diligence on various point guards available for the trade market — although Tyus Jones doesn’t seem to be a target to keep in mind for the Sixers, sources said.”
Jones has made 37 starts for the Wizards this season, averaging 12.6 points and 5.5 assists per contest. The 27-year-old is also scoring at a very high efficiency rate; his career highs are his 52.6 field goal percentage and 43.1 three-point percentage.
Washington’s roster hasn’t improved despite his individual achievements; the Wizards are now ranked 14th in the Eastern Conference with a 6–31 record. It makes sense for general manager Will Dawkins to transfer Jones’ remaining contract in exchange for future assets in order to aid in the team’s rebuilding, as he is scheduled to enter unrestricted free agency at the end of the season.
Given that Philadelphia is “not in any rush” to give up draft picks obtained in the James Harden trade, Fischer stated that one reason the 76ers front staff doesn’t see Jones as a possible target could be the asking price.
In the Harden deal with the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 30, the 76ers obtained a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, a protected 2026 first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder, two second-round picks, and a 2029 pick swap (via ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski).
According to Fischer, the 76ers are anticipated to “engage” in trade talks for point guard Dejounte Murray, therefore Philadelphia might be holding onto its assets for a player like the former All-Star.
