After seeing television voice Jason Benetti leave this offseason, the Chicago White Sox have named their newest voice: Jason Schiffren.
Jason Schiffren is the newest play-by-play voice on television for the Chicago White Sox. He is taking over for Jason Benetti, who departed during the winter to take a job as a Detroit Tigers commentator.
Schiffren now seals the deal, as we had learned before that he was one of the three contenders for the position. He was employed by ESPN.
As stated on his ESPN Press Box page:
In August 2020, John Schriffen joined ESPN to oversee the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization) coverage on the site. He can now be heard providing play-by-play commentary for the XFL, MLB, NBA G-league, Summer League, college football, basketball, softball, and baseball on ESPN. Additionally, ESPN presents the NBA Draft Combine, which is hosted by Schriffen.
Before joining ESPN, Schriffen hosted the NFL Network’s daily news show Up to the Minute, where she also delivered news updates and anchor breaking news coverage. In addition, he filled in as a host for NFL Total Access and gave live look-ins for NFL games nationwide on NFL Gameday Live.
From 2015 to 2020, Schriffen worked for CBS Sports as a sideline reporter and play-by-play commentator. In addition to calling collegiate basketball for both men and women, he worked as a sideline reporter for the NFL, college football, and basketball. Additionally, he worked for CBS as a member of the Emmy Award-winning crew covering March Madness and the NFL.
For the broadcast, Schiffren will be paired with Steve Stone. In all of baseball, Stone is one of the more engaging color commentators.
The White Sox in 2023 came in fourth place in the American League Central.
