Eduardo Herrera was the first of four international free agents signed by the White Sox, who made the announcement on Wednesday. Herrera, 17, received $1.8 million from the team. The others are Jesús Premoli (17 years old, $550,000), Jeziel Boekhoudt (17, $55,000), and Jurdrick Profar (16 years old, $600,000).
MLB Pipeline listed third baseman Herrera as the 11th best international prospect overall. He was a member of Venezuela’s U18 national squad when he was fifteen years old.
“Upon first encountering Eduardo, one cannot fail to notice his immense size, strength, and skill at the game,” stated Marco Paddy, special assistant to the general manager of international operations for the White Sox, in a release. “After a few years of following him, you get to know the athlete on the inside. His baseball skills are enhanced by his maturity, work ethic, competitiveness, and resolve.
Jurickson Profar, the brother of Profar, has ten years of MLB experience. Right-handed, he bats and throws.
Premoli is a Venezuelan left-handed first baseman and third baseman. Curaçao native Boekhoudt pitches right-handed.
